“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” John Quincy Adams

Consolidated Bank and Junior Achievers believe that young people need motivators, role models and the opportunity to learn from those ahead of them so that they too can succeed in life.

It is against this backdrop that the Bank participated in the Junior Achievers Job Shadow Week program. This program gives students from different secondary schools key hands-on experiential programs that equip them with skills to succeed at work and in life.

The Bank had a great opportunity of hosting five (5) students each from Riara Springs Girls and Olympic High Schools at its head office on 11th and 12th July 2016 respectively. The students interacted with different departments namely; Corporate, Treasury, Operations and Recovery. Each student was given the opportunity to have a one-on-one session with a member of staff in order to learn about banking, get advice on career pathways and general life skills. This was perhaps the highlight for the students because they had a personal mentor who shared with them personal experiences and relatable anecdotes. This is markedly different from their daily interactions with teachers.

Each student left a personal message for the individual or department that inspired them the most. Amongst these missives that captured the spirit of the program read: “Yusuf – your department amazed me the most and I’m praying that I will be in it some years to come and one day my determination will let me shine, shine like you have.”

We would like to thank all the Staff members who embraced the ethos of the week and helped to make it successful. We welcome your feedback (which can be shared through the feedback icon) as we look to continue to do our part in growing future generations of Kenyans.
